How to describe myself…
I am a published fantasy, science fiction and horror writer. My stories are appearing in print in the Czech republic since 2001 and hopefully I will be debuting in the US in 2009 (so far, they seem to like what I have to offer).
My stories tend to be somewhat dark, fast paced and written without excessive descriptions – simply said, I hate walls of texts. Friends and some critics refer to my style as „script-like“, which has been actually proved when my story „One would almost believe…“ has been adapted to a theatre play by just cutting out a few lines here and there.
I love mythology and all the stories, that keep appearing over and over during the ages in myriad of versions and localizations. Archetypes, fairy tales, heroes… I believe in the power of a good story, no matter how it is presented to the audience. A book, a movie or something that you hear from your grandmother – the stories are always the most important part, it is only the form that is changing. This is the reason, why I prefer to refer to myself as a storyteller more than only a writer or scriptwriter – the form does not really matter, everything depends on whether the story is good or not, the rest is just a technic. I believe that my stories are good. Good enough to make it big.
I am extremely lame when it comes to selling myself, so I am also currently in need of a good literary agent for English speaking audience. So if you know somebody reliable, let me know.
As for myself: I have been born in 1982, grew up in a small town and was basically raised by grandparents, as my parents did more damage than raising to me. I moved to my grandparents when I was 17 and that was when I also started writing seriously – I am also still taking care of my grandmother.
I speak Czech, English and some German and Japanese. As for education, I failed my university a year before graduating and am not really returning back any soon, even though I would like to acquire a degree at some point.
